Meet Dr. Doug Coward

Dr. Doug Coward is a dedicated veterinarian at the Animal and Bird Clinic of Mission Viejo, with a deep passion for both traditional and holistic animal care. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Santa Clara, a Master of Science in Animal Ecology, and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from UC Davis. Dr. Coward’s diverse background includes research on kangaroo parasites in Australia, wildlife exploration across multiple continents, and hands-on experience with a wide range of species, from exotics to beloved family pets.

He is recognized for his compassionate, integrative approach—treating every animal as an individual and collaborating closely with pet owners to craft lifelong wellness plans. A lifelong learner and educator, Dr. Coward is affiliated with organizations such as the American Association of Avian Veterinarians and the Academy of Human Integrative Health and Medicine. When not at the clinic, you’ll find him surfing, traveling, or volunteering—always seeking new ways to improve animal and human health. Dr. Coward is currently completing a three-year book project sharing valuable lessons from his extensive veterinary career and global adventures titled Healing Both Ends of the Leash.
